With all the stresses we’ve endured over the past several months, one thing that has never waned is my love for my husband. We’ve been together almost 13 years, married for almost 5 and he is just my person. I am my truest self around him and we complement each other so well.
One perk of returning to work full time is that my office is literally down the street from where my husband works. With the chaos that is post-workday with the kids and scrambling to get everyone fed and in bed, most days we just don’t get any time to ourselves to chat.
So we have decided to make it a point to go to lunch together as many days during the week as possible, and I swear it is giving me life. I’m starting to remember who I was pre-kids and it is a breath of fresh air.
Anyway, the other day we are on our way back from a delightful lunch and he is telling me story about how the ladies at his work are big into baking, so there is usually some kind of treat hanging around to share.
Last week he walks into the break room and spots what he believes to be a pumpkin pie cheesecake. He cuts himself a slab and in walks the woman who made it, who promptly tells him it’s her famous Buffalo chicken dip! Ha! I nearly spit my drink all over the dashboard imagining my husband sitting down with a plate of what he believed to be cheesecake and take a large bite of chunky Buffalo chicken dip instead. Classic.
I said, “Well wasn’t there something there to dip in it?” He said there were crackers on the table but he hadn’t noticed them. He had tunnel vision on “the dessert.”
It’s these little things that remind me to live in the moment and enjoy life as it is. It’s a beautiful one.
